Sacred South
07:16
|
|||
Oh beautiful earth, dearest mother
Now I know who you are and cherish you like no other
But for as long as I can remember I had this crazy notion
As a wizard of old I was meant to sail the shoreless cosmic ocean
So I sought Atlantis, I crawled through crag and mire
To find all the hidden answers that this heart doth desire
No shores offered harbour though world’s wonders I have seen
The circle was closed at last with the Guild of the Thirteen
Their ranks have swelled since then, all grey wolfs of shore and sea
Now, the fabled masters of Mediterranean melancholy
So here I build my kingdom, my hearth and my haven
The time to rest has come at last for this tired old raven
From the darkest depth of the abyss that is my soul
I always sought the one thing that could make me whole
Usually life serves only insult to an ailing injury
Yet in the strangest of places I found a cure for this elder misery
The mind always pulled North, yet the heart paid no heed
To the legends that ran mouth-to-mouth
As alluring and compelling as they all might seem at times
This soul belongs to the South

An old familiar place on an otherwise uneventful day
Just a quick drink I said to myself, so come what may
And there I saw you as you waltzed across the room all unassuming
But in your wake you wreaked havoc all-consuming
Dumbstruck by your air, far braver than your looks
Deep went the nails, deep you sunk your hooks
And as we said our goodbyes come morning
I knew I was lost to the daughter of summer dawning
I wonder if the trees
Feel the falling of their leaves
Will the rose come to mourn
The loss of her thorn
As the universe came to loath
The time that we were apart
Till the end of all things
Two pieces of the same heart
So into the sunset we chose to ride, all guns blazing, just like Bonnie and Clyde
Genuine heroes of our age and time, in life and death, forever, partners in crime
And long after the blue flies have their victory dance
I'll still sing you to sleep with tales of our great romance
Even when this rotting bones reach lovingly for the waning sun
I'll hold you in my arms for even in death our time has just begun

Sweet Little Sorrows
08:11
|
|||
We lay together in the shadow
Of an old wych elm tree
Kisses were stolen and
Sweetnesses exchanged in secrecy
The sun crept through the leaves
Making strange shapes on its way
Casting shadows on your smiling face
Making me think you’re one of the fay
With my head in your lap
Fitfully resting for a moment fleeting
Still unaware of the greater powers at play
I think I heard a second beating
Though one of strength and courage
There are no elfin magics in this tale
Just wildly unexpected news
Silently whispered in that vale
Oh bliss! Oh joy! Yet words
Awkwardly stumble on the tongue
Blindsided by emotions overwhelming
As ones in songs of yore were sung
An army of two we were,
Always alone against this realm
Four, now I count in the shadow
Neath the old wych elm
For the love of those sweet little sorrows,
From dungeon dark to the highest peak
Gladly I would venture forth
For so seldom we are granted what we truly seek

Cognitive Dissonance
05:38
|
|||
Beautiful beyond measure and words, it shines pristine
Yet a light scratch on the surface reveals the rot within
The golden land of plenty, that's how the story goes
Is it gone? Was it ever there? A fact that no one knows
All the pieces on the board are known and familiar to my eye
But the rules of the game still elude me no matter how hard I try
This can't be real, surely just a badly written fable
The worst kind of degenerates are invited to the table
All the masks will come off and the veils will fall
In this rigged game of chess bound to doom us all
As ill begotten sons on pedestals of gold are raised
And for their failures, as gods of old are praised
Still trying to wrap my head around it, as it made no sense
My eyes were forcefully opened to this cognitive dissonance
A disheartening paradox that no one wants to address
For those that listen are few and seem to care even less

No Solace
03:09
|
|||
The flickering streetlight offered no solace tonight
With the sound of the traffic but a distant hum
I find myself walking another dead end street
In the ghost town that we have become
Is there no solace for us?

Sworn to Deviltry
08:13
|
|||
Tough my sails have long been torn
I’m still trying to make waves
But as of late I feel that my soul has been spread too thin
Nevertheless, headlong into the fray there’s still a war to win
In defiance and pride I stand as an unmovable isle
As nature spews forth its darkest bile
These shores naught but bones bleached marble white
A testament of mother nature's ungodly might
Most intricate knot of schemes and lies I still have to uncoil
Before I bestow this tired old bones to the blackest soil
Be cautious of men that have the power
To cause grave misery
They're already breathing down our necks
Each one of them sworn to deviltry
And mind you kind Sirs these are troubling times
The zenith of morale is so oddly low these days
That even dwarfs cast long shadows
But what an opportunity to witness mankind in its death throes
So if I had only one song to make the world know that I’m here now
And If I wanted to make even the gods weep
These are the lines I would sing with all my heart
As I bestow this wretched body to the deepest deep
Beware of the beast that calls itself man
A faint glint of a fang reveals the smile
The fancy attire might conceal the hide
But not their true faces grey with guile

Oh beautiful earth, mother dearest what has become of you lately?
Have you been so lost in your own grief that you failed to notice the misery of others?
But you haven’t called men of integrity as sons of yours for a long time now, mother.
Tell me, do you already mourn the loss of their minds? Does your soil hunger for their bones?
Now these lesser sons of greater fathers are all that’s left to inherit this jewel
And in a cruel resemblance of life the stage was set for the play to begin
Behold the spectacle of a kingdom dying in all its beauty and glory
A carnival of the macabre to appease the exotic taste of the rich
Though history had its twists and turns, just to laugh at our mistakes
It still had one last brutal lesson left to teach
One last time I went to the shore to bury all my hate
but instead I buried my head in my hands and wept
I wept for the ones leaving
as hard as I did for those staying behind
Now it’s time to bid my farewell as I have overstayed my welcome by years now mother
A soft kiss on the cheek before I leave and a broken promise of returning
